Solutions focused mentoring

KICK believe every young person deserves someone who believes in them. Through our Solutions Focused Mentoring, we support young people to overcome challenges, recognise their strengths and build confidence for the future.

Using a solutions-focused approach, our mentors help young people explore the challenges they face and identify practical ways forward. Rather than focusing on problems alone, this approach encourages young people to recognise their strengths, build confidence and develop the skills needed to make positive decisions in their lives.

Rooted in principles developed from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), the solutions-focused approach has been shown to increase young people’s sense of self-belief and help reshape their thinking both in school and at home.

KICK mentors build supportive relationships with young people through one-to-one or small group sessions. Drawing on elements of mentoring, coaching and guidance, this flexible approach allows us to respond to the individual needs of each young person, helping them grow in confidence, resilience and responsibility.

This programme looks to challenge behaviours and support young people to grow in confidence by reflecting on and developing the following areas:

Identity

Managing Feelings

Motivation

Self-Awareness

Empathy

Social Skills

At KICK, we believe it’s important to measure the impact of our mentoring and clearly demonstrate the progress each young person is making. Our secure online monitoring system allows us to record mentoring sessions, track individual progress over time and produce clear reports for schools. This enables staff to see the journey each mentee is on, celebrate achievements and identify any areas where additional support may be needed. The system is easy to use, securely stores all information and provides schools with up-to-date insights into the outcomes and impact of our mentoring provision.
